Church of the Advent is established.

December 1, 1844

(Sept.) Formed by a small group of former members of Trinity Church, the congregation meets initially in an apartment at 13 Merrimac Street. William Croswell is the first minister. The congregation moves to a hall at Lowell and Causeway Streets on June 1, 1845, to a church building on Green Street in 1847, to the former Bowdoin Street Meeting House at 35 Bowdoin Street in 1864, and to its current building on Beacon Hill in 1883.*
